Chapter Six

Vasilios

As I predicted, one taste of Briar and I am wholly and completely addicted to her. I carried her to my bedroom, unable to part from her as she curled into my chest.

It was all I could do to keep myself from burying myself in her and claiming her entirely. Yet I held back—barely.

Instead, I woke her with my head between her thick thighs and tongue lapping at her pussy.

Briar then learned how sensitive the bases of my horns are as she held tight.

We both lost count how many times she fell apart in my bed.

It’s been a week of pleasure as we skirt the line drawn. What makes it especially difficult to not claim Briar as my wife in all senses is how damn smart and funny she is. Spending the evening eating dinner and then simply talking to each other is now my favorite part of the day.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say I was unhappy before I married Briar. I was content with managing the vineyard that I’ve known my entire life. I’m friends with the workers who’ve been here for generations and I’ve had lovers here and there.

Now I can say I’m happy, something I’ve never considered for myself before.

The sun is brushing the horizon and painting the sky brilliant shades of orange, purples, blues, and reds as clouds move in from the east. There will be a summer storm tonight, but from experience I know we still have some time to enjoy the sunset before needing to head inside.

The sun setting over vineyard slopes and the not-so-distant ocean is worthy of a masterpiece painting, and yet it’s my human wife I can’t bear to look away from.

Curled up on the rattan sofa with a glass of white wine in her hand, she is the most relaxed I’ve seen her. One leg dangles over the edge of the sofa, her toes brushing the water of the pool I’d turned into a grotto. She’s taken to going barefoot around the house, only slipping on sandals if she ventures out into the fields. I don’t think she knows how she taunts the beast inside me with those innocent flashes of shapely calves and the delicate arches of her feet.

As if feeling my gaze, Briar looks up from her book to give me a knowing grin.

Perhaps my wife does know exactly what she’s doing to me, the damn temptress.

I take a long drink of my own wine, red to her white, never looking away from Briar’s honey-sweet gaze.

“Is there something I can do for you, wife?” I ask, rotating my wine glass as if absentminded.

“I’m curious,” she says and my lip quirks. She’s always curious. I incline my head in silent encouragement. “Why do you wear human clothing? Why did your kind move from traditional garments to pants? Aren’t they uncomfortable?”

I shrug. “I’ve always dressed in the human fashion. No doubt it’s rooted in the species’ prejudices and conflicts from before we monsters lived with humans in harmony.
